Since it was established in 1901, the "Dr. A. Verwey Chemical laboratories and Superintendence Company", has played a leading role in surveying, sampling and analyzing oils, fats, nuts and seeds for more than a century. This Dutch laboratory is an internationally recognized, highly respected, independent service provider. Dr. Verwey laboratory is located in the heart of Rotterdam and near the port where many of our clients handle the trading, shipping and storing of bulk goods for further processing. We use a wide range of methods and sophisticated equipment to conduct tests for clients from all over the world.
Dr. A. Verwey joined Silliker Group Corporation in 2004 and has since been one of its chemistry competence centers.

Ocean Nutrition reaches testing agreement with Silliker, Dr. A. Verwey
Ocean Nutrition Canada (ONC), a leading researcher, manufacturer, and marketer of Omega-3 based ingredients, has selected Silliker Group Corporation as a laboratory partner for the analysis of omega fatty acids in North America and Europe.
Recognized as one of the health and wellness industry's fastest growing companies, ONC is a global leading supplier of Omega-3 EPA and DHA ingredients from fish oil - essential nutrients that have been scientifically linked to supporting heart health, brain health, and general wellness. In this issue of Silliker Netherlands News, we put the spotlight on Silliker Oosterhout. Silliker Dr. A. Verwey Oosterhout is one of Silliker Rotterdam's three specialized branch laboratories.
Silliker Oosterhout is located right at the heart of Europe's largest warehousing facilities for groundnuts. Many of Silliker's clients have chosen Oosterhout as their home base for warehousing, upgrading, blanching, roasting and packaging peanuts. These companies' need to maintain high quality created the need for independent and systematic quality control. So Dr. A. Verwey Rotterdam responded to its clients' needs by setting up a dedicated laboratory in Oosterhout.
Recently, the Oosterhout lab was restyled to have its equipment and capacity keep pace with clients' standards. The lab samples incoming lots in accordance with official protocols. Quality is assessed using organoleptic parameters (visual appearance, color, odor), measurements, and roasting tests. Lines are very short, we can immediately report back to our clients when we see quality issues. Our people are also very flexible in adjusting their time schedule to accommodate our clients.
This flexible, tailor-made approach has turned Silliker Dr. A. Verwey Oosterhout into Europe's leading "Peanut Center", providing laboratory services to many groundnut traders and processors.
Silliker Netherlands, Ede, leading microbiology laboratory
For those of you who are new to our newsletter, we would like to introduce Silliker Ede, our microbiology laboratory. In Ede, we offer accredited sampling and testing services to raw materials and ingredients suppliers to the food industry, food manufacturers, retailers and caterers.
For food safety reasons, the microbiological quality of every food ingredient must be known at every stage of the processing, from field to fork. Suppliers and buyers work with quality requirements that are to a great extent based on food safety regulations. Food manufacturers are legally required to identify and manage physical, chemical and microbiological risks.
Silliker Ede can advise you about all things microbiological, and our high-capacity, well- equipped laboratories can handle all your quality and pathogen tests. We also carry out shelf-life studies and challenge tests in accordance with European legislation.
Obviously, clients can expect timely, reliable results, but at Silliker we also help you interpret those results. Our microbiologists are available to explain the test results and make recommendations about further steps you might need to take.

Silliker acquires Biofortis, pioneer in nutrition clinical studies.
We are pleased to announce that Silliker Group Corp. has acquired 100% of Biofortis, a French Contract Research Organization (CRO) specialized in clinical nutrition studies.
Founded by Murielle Cazaubiel in 2002, this pioneering CRO based in the city of Nantes (France) offers two types of specialized services to clients: managing clinical trials to obtain scientific proof of claims for food and pharmaceutical products, health ingredients, or additives, and developing specific biological markers. Through its "Central Lab" which specializes in metabolism disorders, Biofortis also possesses the capability to integrate the most recent biomarkers into clinical nutrition studies.

This 5th conference of the International Association of Food Protection is organised in collaboration with the International Life Sciences Institute Europe, the World Health Organisation and the Food and Agriculture Office of the United Nations. New for 2009, IAFP's European Symposium has expanded to a three-day conference, featuring pre-meeting workshops and concurrent sessions.
The symposium entitled 'Advancements in Food Safety' is shaping the future of food safety by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas with colleagues from across Europe working in industry, government and academia.
Silliker will attend as Organizing Committee Member, Speaker and Poster Presenter.

New Trends in Food Analysis: international workshop of AOAC, Paris, November.
The next conference of the European section of the AOAC International takes place in Paris on November 23 - 24, 2009. This workshop is titled "New Trends in Food Analyses, From LC MS Technologies to UPLC". An extensive program is offered with sessions on analysis of Vitamins, Drug residues, Allergens, Mycotoxins, Pesticides. As previously, the winner of the AOAC Europe Best Poster Award will be chosen.
